Plantain (Plantago major) is a perennial herb with a short, vertical rhizome, with numerous fibrous, filiform roots. The leaves of the plant are long-leaved, large, broad-ovate, with 3-9 arched veins. Leaves form a basal rosette. Inflorescence is a long cylindrical spike up to 15-30 cm high. The flowers are small, inconspicuous, with a green cup and brownish corolla. The fruit is a two-nest box containing 6-30 seeds. Plantain blooms in May - September, the fruits ripen in August-October.
